I’m the wife of an ICU nurse who is busting his butt with his co-workers and when he’s off, he needs time to decompress…and I need time out of the house. Hikes have been the perfect family activity. Yes, even in the winter. With the Osprey Poco Child Carrier, we can get the whole family out for some fun in the snow.

Why Did We Choose Osprey?

Full disclosure, we were gifted this pack as a hand-me-down, but it’s because family heard that we had our eyes on it. We had researched child carriers, well since before we got pregnant really. Every time we passed REI or another outdoor retailer, we’d go in and try it out, check out all of the pockets and the safety specs.

The Poco Child Carrier is Solid

We wanted a child carrier that was sturdy, to support the weight and make carrying a growing child easier. The Poco Pack is sturdy and then some. It doesn’t flex when you walk, and it supports your baby/child as you hike over uneven terrain.

When you’re not carrying the pack, it comes with a built in kick stand. This keeps the pack steady and sturdy so you can easily load and unload your child. Whether you’re getting out of the car, or stopping for a snack, you can be confident that the Poco Pack will stay put.

Comfortable

When you want to get the whole family out for a hike, it has to be fun. An uncomfortable hike is not a fun hike. The carrier we chose had to be comfortable for us to wear, and for Baby Bear to ride in.

This pack is fully padded in soft fabric with no hard points. It has a harness which keeps your child centered for easier carrying but also prevents them from slouching down and not being able to see. There are also stirrups for your baby’s feet.

Baby Bear loves his pack. His eyes light up and he giggles because he knows he’s going for a hike. Then, for the entire duration of the hike he’s giggle and babbling on having a grand old time.

Carrying More than the Kid

With a baby you have impromptu diaper changes, and loads of snacks. Carrying a child and hiking means you’ll probably shed a layer or two, and you’ll want to have another layer for your baby. The Poco Child Carrier has a number of pockets to fit everything you’ll need on a hike.

Not Too Heavy

Your’s truly wanted to make sure that we didn’t end up with a pack that was so heavy that I couldn’t lift it, or carry it for long periods of time. When we first got the pack, Baby Bear was smaller. Now he’s pushing 30 pounds. While that’s not huge, that weight combines with at of the pack and the other things you add into the pack. The Poco Pack is pretty light as far as child carriers go which is a huge plus in my book.
