Outdoor MamaBear Review of Bontrager's Tyro Youth Helmet

Bontrager Tyro Youth Helmet Review

When Baby Bear isn’t a baby anymore, it’s time for a new helmet. Our kiddo has a big noggin so we’ve already sized up to the Bontrager Tyro Youth Helmet. Previously Baby Bear wore the Bontrager Little Dipper Helmet and loved it. But he grew pretty quickly and soon we were in need of something new. Read our review of the Tryo here.

Back to Bontrager

Where safety is concerned, we don’t skimp. When it comes to our kids, this is even more true. Over the years we have trusted Bontrager because of their research and technology. They’re about just as safe as you can get for kids bicycle helmets.

When you head to Target, Walmart, or other big box stores its up to you to pick a helmet off of the shelf. Shopping for a Bontrager helmet at Trek, you get friendly and knowledgable staff to help you. We’re fairly knowledgeable about proper fit. But its great to have someone who can back you up and double check your choices when it comes to your kiddo’s safety.

Safety

This is a MIPs helmet. MIPS essentially means that the helmet moves with the wearer’s head a bit at the impact point of a crash. This little bit of movement deflects much of the force around the person rather than having their head, neck, and spine absorbing the impact. Bontrager also has a one year replacement warranty if the helmet is totaled in a crash.

Fit

The shape and fit of this helmet is a big winner for us. The helmet comes down over the back of his head providing all around protection. It also makes the helmet more comfortable to wear. The helmet is easily sized down for accurate fit and the straps are easy to adjust as well.

Buckle

When a kid is ready to roll it can be a challenge to get them to stand still long enough to kit them up. The magnetic clasp on the Tyro Youth helmets make putting them on fast and easy. It’s little details like this one that mean your kid is more likely to wear the helmet, and be safe when riding.
